China’s first Mars exploration mission was approved by the CPC Central Committee and State Council in January of 2016. The program is named as Tianwen-1, with an objective of realizing orbiting, landing and roving detection of Mars all by one mission. This serves as the first major milestone to China’s planetary exploration activities.
Tianwen-1 spacecraft was launched into the Earth-Mars transfer orbit atop LM-5 Y4 launch vehicle in Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on 23rd, July 2020.
A commemorative envelope is hereby specially commissioned to mark this mission.
