The Memphis Building is a landmark structure within Sifang — A Park by Artists & Architects, designed by Italian architect Ettore Sottsass. The building features a composition of red, yellow, and blue primary colors combined with geometric forms, reflecting the rebellious and playful spirit of the Memphis Group. Drawing inspiration from classical architectural “corridors,” its modular design creates flexible and dynamic spaces, giving the architecture a game-like vitality.
The building currently functions as the Memphis Zone of the Autograph Collection Hotel, primarily catering to families. Guest rooms are designed with child-friendly elements to support parent-child interactions. The spatial layout is distinctive: the ground floor is 6F, with floors descending sequentially below. It includes two main passenger elevators and one transfer elevator, while the lobby and conference center connect to another building via an underground passage, resulting in a complex circulation system.
The signage system follows the building’s own color logic: red indicates the transfer elevator and its path, while yellow and blue correspond to the two main passenger elevators and their respective routes. Guests can intuitively navigate the building by following these color-coded lines. Beyond wayfinding, the signage echoes the architectural palette and playful spirit of the Memphis Building, integrating function and visual delight into the overall spatial experience.
