The idea for this work came from Han Jiaying’s 2003 trip to
Yuelu Academy, where he saw bamboo stalks covered with
visitors' carved names. He photographed their different last
names and turned them into a mix of brushstrokes and grid
patterns, suggesting elements of bamboo, mountain, wind,
and the moon. The piece goes back to the roots of Chinese
characters, blending their pictographic style with modern
visuals to express the spirit of Eastern civilization.
